Brass Sealing Plug R1/4"

Plug 42103 is a component closing an R1/4" bore in the valve block or pump housing of the Kranzle pressure washer. The external taper thread R1/4" (BSPT – British Standard Pipe Taper) screws into the bore and seals through progressively tighter thread engagement when tightened – without a separate face seal. The R1/4" thread is one of the most common inch sizes in hydraulic and pneumatic systems – used at gauge ports, auxiliary valves and small pump service bores.

Application

The plug is mounted in an unused R1/4" bore in the valve block, head or pump housing – closing an inactive hydraulic channel, service port or connection not required in the given pump configuration. Taper thread R1/4" appears in Kranzle pump circuits at gauge ports, safety valves and auxiliary connections. When the pump is configured without a connected gauge or additional accessories, the R1/4" bore is blanked with this plug.

Replaced when the thread is damaged, the connection leaks, or the plug body is mechanically damaged.

Symptoms – when to replace

• Water leak at the R1/4" thread during pump operation – the taper thread does not seal correctly with damaged or worn flanks.
• Plug has loosened under pump vibration – insufficient tightening torque or worn taper thread flanks.
• Visible corrosion or mechanical damage to the plug body.
• Stripped or damaged head hex – a secure grip with a wrench is no longer possible without risk of deforming the head edges.

How to select the right part

Identify by reference number 42103 and thread R1/4". Taper thread R1/4" (BSPT) and parallel thread G1/4" (BSPP) have identical external diameters and are easy to confuse. Check the thread type in the pump bore: with a taper thread the plug enters progressively tighter with each successive turn; with a parallel thread the resistance is uniform throughout. A BSPT plug screwed into a BSPP bore will not seal correctly even with PTFE tape.

R1/4" is a smaller size than R1/2" (42032) – they are not interchangeable despite the identical taper thread type. Before ordering, confirm the thread size in the pump bore by measuring or comparing with the removed plug.
