Engine-Driven Hot Water Pressure Washers
Hot water pressure washers with an engine drive. The engine drives the pump, and an oil burner heats the water in the heating coil. Hot water dissolves grease, oil, lubricants and dried-on organic dirt faster, which shortens cleaning time and often reduces the amount of detergent needed. They suit mobile work: farming (machinery, livestock buildings), transport, construction sites and municipal services.
What to check when choosing
- Temperature and flow rate – the higher the flow, the more fuel the burner needs to hold the set temperature.
- Burner power supply – depending on the design, the burner and its controls may run on mains power, an alternator or generator in the machine, or a battery. If the washer has to work completely away from a socket, check this in the model data.
- Fuel – the engine and the burner have separate tanks. The fuel type for each depends on the model.
- Safety devices – flame sensor, heating coil safety valve and burner shut-off when there is no water flow.
Maintenance includes items not found on cold water machines: descaling the heating coil, replacing the fuel nozzle and fuel filter, and burner adjustment. Exhaust fumes come from both the engine and the burner, so the machine is for outdoor use only.
