A large hose reel drum rotates on two bearing blocks – left and right. Block 40305 is the left side of this arrangement: it supports the drum axle, maintains correct axial alignment, and transfers the loads from the mass of the drum with the wound hose to the pressure washer frame.

Application

The bearing block is installed on the left side of the Kranzle large hose reel drum. The bearing seat in the block guides the drum axle and enables its free rotation during hose winding and unwinding. The block mounting points connect it to the washer frame or housing – the geometry of these points determines the correct horizontal and vertical alignment of the drum axle. The component operates under constant load from the drum mass and under variable dynamic load with every rotation of the drum carrying a wound high-pressure hose.

Symptoms – When to Replace

  • Runout or wobble of the drum during rotation – a worn bearing seat in the block does not guide the axle evenly.
  • Cracked block body – a visible crack or broken-off fragment in the area of the bearing seat or mounting points.
  • Damaged block-to-frame mounting holes – block play on the washer frame alters the drum axle alignment.
  • Stiff or uneven drum rotation with a functional bearing and free axle – deformed block geometry forces lateral loading on the bearing.
  • Visible cracks in the bearing seat area that widen under load when the drum carries a wound hose.

How to Select the Correct Part

Block 40305 is the left-side variant – before ordering, confirm which side of the drum requires replacement. The left and right bearing blocks may have different mounting point geometry or an asymmetric hole arrangement that prevents interchangeable installation. Reference number 40305 identifies exclusively the left variant. When replacing, compare the new block with the removed one in terms of mounting hole arrangement and bearing seat dimension.

Kranzle catalogue part. Used among others in large hose reel drums fitted to Kranzle pressure washers. Left-side variant – the right bearing block has a separate reference number. Verify compatibility with a specific drum model using reference number 40305 or the drum service diagram.

Does a worn bearing seat in the block always manifest as drum runout?|Not always immediately. With minor seat wear, axial or radial play of the drum axle may go unnoticed during unloaded operation. It becomes apparent with the hose fully wound – the mass of the drum with the hose loads the bearing seat and the play becomes noticeable as lateral movement or drum vibration. Check the seat play with the drum loaded, not only when empty.

Can a cracked bearing block be repaired by bonding or welding?|This is not recommended. The bearing block carries constant loads from the mass of the drum with the wound hose – a repaired body will not have its original strength and may crack again under load. An additional problem is maintaining the bearing seat geometry after repair – a deformation of even a tenth of a millimetre will alter the drum axle alignment and accelerate bearing wear.

Does replacing one block require simultaneous replacement of the drum axle bearing?|With the assembly open, it is worth checking the condition of the bearing – if the block was damaged and the drum was running with runout, the bearing may have suffered accelerated wear from uneven loading. A bearing in good condition – with no radial play and no crunching during rotation – can be retained. Replacing the block and bearing simultaneously makes sense as a preventive measure during a thorough drum service.

What should be checked on the washer frame before installing the new block?|Check the condition of the threads or mounting holes in the frame – worn threads or damaged holes will cause the new block to have play on the frame and repeat the drum alignment problem. If the block cracked in the area of the mounting points, also assess the condition of the frame in that location – a block cracking under load may indicate uneven frame alignment or overloading of the mounting points by a deformed washer housing.
