Knob 430491 is an operator control component of the regulating valve in the Kranzle pressure washer pump, sold together with a protective cap. The knob allows manual adjustment of the working pressure by changing the pre-tension of the valve spring – turning in one direction increases pressure, turning in the other reduces it. The cap protects the knob mechanism from contaminants and accidental adjustment of the pressure setting during operation.

Application

The knob is mounted on the outer end of the pump regulating valve, as a component accessible to the operator without any tools. Rotating the knob changes the pre-compression of the control piston spring in the valve – which directly determines the pressure at which the valve switches between working mode and bypass. The cap is placed on the knob after setting the desired pressure, preventing accidental changes to the setting.

Used when replacing a damaged or broken knob without needing to replace the entire regulating valve, or when the cap is damaged or lost.

Symptoms – when to replace

  • Knob cracked or broken – a secure grip and rotation during pressure adjustment is no longer possible.
  • Stripped or rounded knob profile preventing a secure hand grip – particularly on knobs with a ribbed or knurled surface.
  • Damaged connection between the knob and the valve spindle – the knob rotates without transmitting movement to the adjustment mechanism.
  • Lost or shattered cap – the mechanism is left unprotected against contaminants and accidental adjustment of the pressure setting.

How to select the right part

Identify by reference number 430491. Before ordering, confirm that knob 430491 fits the regulating valve installed in your pump – the valve number and knob number must be compatible. If the pump has regulating valve 40490, check whether the knob from that set (Handrad 40457 + Kappe 40458) differs from 430491 – they may be components for different valve variants or pump series.

If the problem concerns only the cap with the knob intact – check whether the cap is available as a separate part before ordering the complete 430491.

Compatibility

Component of the regulating valve for Kranzle pressure washer pumps. Includes the knob and protective cap. Verify the exact compatibility range by reference number 430491 and the type of regulating valve installed in the pump.

What is the cap on the knob for, and what are the risks of operating without it?|The cap protects against two things simultaneously: it prevents dust, water and dirt from entering the connection between the knob and the valve spindle, and it stops accidental pressure setting changes during washer operation – through contact with the operator's clothing, the hose or other components. Without the cap, the pressure setting can change unnoticed, and contaminants in the knob mechanism make future adjustment or removal more difficult.

Can the knob be replaced without replacing the entire regulating valve if only the knob is damaged?|Yes – that is precisely the situation for which component 430491 is intended. If the valve body, control piston and spring are intact and only the knob or cap is damaged, replacing the knob alone restores full adjustment functionality without dismantling the complete valve. However, check that the connection between the knob and the valve spindle – keyway, pin or thread – is undamaged, as damage to this connection prevents movement from being transmitted even with a new knob.

How to set the correct working pressure after replacing the knob?|After fitting the new knob, set the pressure with the washer running, gun open and a pressure gauge connected. Turn the knob slowly until the pressure matches the specification for the specific washer model – tightening increases pressure, loosening reduces it. Set with the motor at stable speed and the pump warmed up. After setting, fit the cap to protect the setting from accidental change. Do not turn the knob with the gun closed and the motor running – a sudden change in spring tension during bypass operation can cause pressure spikes when the gun is next opened.
