The drum swivel connector consists of two cooperating components – the body and the spindle – routing water flow through the internal channel while maintaining a seal under working pressure.
The spindle is installed inside the swivel connector body on the side of the hose reel drum. It forms the rotating part of the hydraulic circuit – it rotates together with the drum during hose winding and unwinding, while the connector body remains stationary. Sliding seals operating on the spindle surface maintain the integrity of the joint throughout the full rotation range. The internal channel of the spindle carries water under pump working pressure.
The basis for selection is reference number 40168. The spindle must be compatible with the swivel connector body used in the same drum – the external dimensions of the spindle, the internal channel geometry, and the connections must match the specific drum model. Before ordering the spindle alone, assess the condition of connector body 40167 – if the seat surface in the body is worn or damaged, replacing only the spindle will not restore a lasting seal.
Kranzle catalogue part. Used among others in hose reel drums of Kranzle pressure washers equipped with swivel connector 40167. Verify compatibility with a specific drum model using reference number 40168 or the drum service diagram.

How to assess whether leakage from the joint results from spindle wear rather than from the seals?|After disassembling the connector, check the sliding surface of the spindle – it should be smooth and uniform around the entire circumference. Longitudinal scratches or point pitting indicate spindle damage. If the surface is smooth and the leak returns after replacing the seals, the problem lies with the connector body or the fit between the spindle and the body.
Should the connector seals always be replaced at the same time as the spindle?|Yes. The seals are wear components working directly against the spindle surface – after connector disassembly and spindle replacement, fitting old seals onto a new surface will shorten their service life and will not provide a lasting seal. Replacing the spindle and seals simultaneously is the standard scope of hose reel drum swivel connector service.
Can spindle 40168 be reconditioned by polishing the sliding surface?|Only in the case of very fine scratches and minimal wear. Polishing removes material and reduces the external diameter of the spindle – even a small dimensional change alters the fit with the body and affects seal contact pressure. With pronounced pitting or longitudinal scratches, reconditioning is not justified – the spindle requires replacement with a new one.
