The flow switch, called Durchflusswächter or Strömungswächter by the manufacturer, is a safety component in the water circuit of a heated pressure washer. The original Kränzle catalog number is 126002, threshold flow 30 l/min, Ermeto Ø12 mm connection. Fits the therm series pressure washers.

Application

The switch is fitted in the water circuit, between the high-pressure pump and the heat exchanger/heating coil. Its job is to detect the actual water flow through the unit and pass that information to the burner control. If the flow is too low or absent, the switch blocks burner ignition or shuts the burner off during operation – this protects the heating coil from running "on dry fire", i.e. overheating with no heat being taken up by flowing water. For this reason the Strömungswächter is one of the points of the mandatory annual safety inspection (UVV) of heated-water pressure washers.

Symptoms – when to replace

  • The burner doesn't ignite, even though the electrical supply, heating oil and water pressure itself are all fine.
  • The burner goes out right after ignition, even though the gun is open and the water flow is sufficient.
  • Water heating works unevenly or cuts out despite a stable flow in the system.
  • The protection shuts the burner off even after replacing the inlet filter and with a clean nozzle – a sign that the problem is in the switch itself, not the installation.
  • Visible leak or corrosion at the Ermeto fitting by the switch – risk of leakage and an incorrect flow reading.

How to choose the right part

  • Most reliably by catalog number: 126002.
  • By the name in the parts catalog: Durchflusswächter or Strömungswächter, 30 l/min, therm C.
  • By connection type: Ermeto Ø12 mm fitting – other Kränzle series (e.g. therm) have flow switches under other numbers and may have a different connection type.
  • By comparison with the removed switch – especially on versions with an electrical (contact) output, where the way the wires connect also matters.

Compatibility

Fits Kränzle pressure washers with oil-fired water heating: the classic Therm 630, 750, 890, 1160 series (30 l/min, Ermeto Ø12mm fitting). The current catalog number is 126002 – it replaced the earlier number 126001, which was used under the same name (Strömungswächter). When ordering for an older unit, compare the fitting with the removed switch, as minor design differences may have occurred over the production years.

[faq]

How can I tell a faulty flow switch from an air-locked water system?|If, after bleeding the system and checking the inlet filter, the burner still doesn't ignite or goes out despite correct pressure and water flow at the lance outlet, the problem most often lies in the switch itself or its wiring, not in the water supply.

Can this switch be fitted to another series, e.g. therm CAM or therm-RP?|No – these series have their own flow switches under different catalog numbers and probably a different trip threshold, matched to their water output.

What can cause the switch to trip falsely even though the water system works correctly?|The most common causes are a worn or seized moving element in the switch, corrosion at the Ermeto fitting causing a leak, or a broken electrical contact on versions with a magnetic contact – in such cases the water system itself may be completely sound.
