Plug 40522 is a complete repair set for the check valve in the valve block of the Kranzle AQ series pressure washer pump. The set contains three components:

The ball and spring form the check valve mechanism – they allow water to pass in one direction only and prevent it from flowing back into the cylinder after the delivery stroke. The O-ring seals the plug in the valve block bore. The set includes all components needed for a complete replacement of the mechanism without sourcing parts separately.

Application

The check valve operates in the valve block of the AQ pump at the cylinder outlet. During the delivery stroke, water pressure lifts the ball off the spring and water flows into the working circuit. During the suction stroke, the spring presses the ball against its seat and closes the flow – water does not return to the cylinder, and pressure in the working circuit remains stable between piston strokes.

The set is replaced when repairing a pump showing symptoms of water backflow, pressure pulsation or a general drop in performance not related to piston seals or the regulating valve. Before ordering, confirm that your washer is fitted with an AQ series pump.

Symptoms – when to replace

  • Noticeable working pressure pulsation proportional to pump speed – the ball does not seat fully and some water flows back during each suction stroke.
  • Drop in maximum pressure without an obvious cause on the piston seal, nozzle or regulating valve side – one or more check valves are not holding.
  • Water leak from the valve block area under working pressure – worn or damaged O-ring 18x2 (40016) in the plug.
  • Visible damage or pitting on the 10mm ball surface – the ball does not seat fully against the seat even with an intact spring.
  • Weakened or broken valve spring – the ball does not return to the seat after the delivery stroke and the valve remains open in both directions.

How to select the right part

Identify by reference number 40522 and AQ pump type. The valve block may contain check valves with different ball diameters and different reference numbers – confirm that the removed component corresponds to number 40522 before ordering the set.

The 10mm ball (12122) is a critical parameter – a ball of a different diameter will not seat fully against the valve seat. Do not use balls from other sources without confirming identical diameter and surface hardness. Spring 141201 must have the correct contact force – a weaker spring gives insufficient ball-to-seat pressure; a stronger one will impede valve opening at normal working pressure.

When replacing one plug, assess the condition of the remaining check valves in the block – they operate under identical conditions and wear at the same rate. Replacing the full set with the block already open is more practical than a second disassembly a few months later.

Compatibility

Repair set for the check valve in the valve block of Kranzle AQ series pressure washer pumps. Contains: ball 10mm (12122), valve spring (141201), O-ring 18x2 (40016). Verify the exact compatibility range by reference number 40522 and AQ pump type.

How do the symptoms of a damaged check valve compare to those of a damaged regulating valve (unloader)?|A damaged check valve produces rhythmic symptoms – pressure pulsation proportional to pump speed, as water flows back during each suction stroke. The problem is constant regardless of gun position. A damaged regulating valve (40490) produces symptoms related to mode switching – pressure regulation lost at the knob, bypass not activating with the gun closed, or spontaneous switching during operation. If pressure pulsates rhythmically with the gun open and seals intact – look at the check valves.

Can only the ball or only the O-ring be replaced without buying the complete set 40522?|The individual set components have separate reference numbers – ball 12122, spring 141201, O-ring 40016 – and are available separately. If disassembly reveals damage to only one component, replacing that single part is justified. With an older pump or when the service history of the valves is unknown, purchasing the complete set 40522 is more reliable – the individual components wear together, and a diagnosis of "only the O-ring is bad" after years of service can be misleading.

Do all valve plugs in the same AQ pump valve block share reference number 40522, or do different positions have different numbers?|The pump valve block typically contains both suction (inlet) and delivery (outlet) valves – these may differ in plug number, ball diameter or spring force, as they operate at different pressures. Reference number 40522 applies to a specific position in the AQ pump valve block – do not assume the same plug fits every bore. During disassembly, mark or photograph the position of all plugs and order replacements by the reference numbers from the removed components.

How to inspect the valve seat after removing the plug – does a damaged seat rule out replacing just the set?|After removing the plug, examine the ball seat in raking light. The seat should be smooth and uniform – without scratches, pitting or erosion marks at the ball contact point. A damaged seat will not seal with a new ball even with an intact spring. Light limescale deposits can be removed with a descaling agent before assembly. With visible mechanical damage to the seat, replacing set 40522 alone will not restore the seal – repair or replacement of the valve block is required.
