Component 44868 is a through-type threaded adapter connecting the 3/8" thread of the Kranzle pressure washer pump safety valve to the thread of a pressure gauge or measurement line. One end screws into the 3/8" safety valve bore; the other accepts a gauge or measurement line with a different thread size. The component has no side ports or closing mechanism – it is purely a transition adapter allowing a measuring instrument to be connected to the safety valve circuit.

Application

The adapter is mounted as a permanent connection between the pump safety valve and a measurement line or pressure gauge. It allows a measuring instrument with a thread other than 3/8" to be connected without additional adapters. Used during pump safety circuit service and calibration of the safety valve trip pressure – the safety valve should activate approximately 15% above the pump working pressure, which requires direct measurement at this component.

Replaced when the thread on either side is damaged or the body is mechanically damaged.

Symptoms – when to replace

  • Leak at the 3/8" thread on the safety valve side – damaged thread or absence of proper sealing at the connection.
  • Leak at the thread on the gauge or measurement line side – damaged thread on that side of the adapter.
  • Mechanical damage or corrosion of the body – particularly with constant exposure to working water and varying temperatures.
  • Inability to connect the gauge with a tight seal – damaged thread on the measurement connection side after repeated assembly and removal.

How to select the right part

Identify by reference number 44868. Before ordering, confirm both adapter threads on the removed component: the 3/8" thread on the safety valve side and the thread on the gauge or measurement line side. Changing either means a different adapter.

Inch taper thread BSPT and parallel thread BSPP have identical external diameters at 3/8" – distinguish them by checking whether screwing into the valve bore gives increasing resistance (taper) or uniform resistance (parallel). The sealing method depends on thread type: taper sealed with PTFE tape or hydraulic thread paste; parallel sealed through a face element.

Compatibility

Threaded adapter for the measurement line connection at the safety valve of Kranzle pressure washer pumps. Valve-side thread: 3/8" – verify type (taper/parallel) on the removed component. Verify the exact compatibility range by reference number 44868.

[faq]

How does adapter 44868 differ from a plug with a gauge port (e.g. 40591) – both concern pressure measurement?|A plug with a gauge port (40591) closes a bore and has a side seat for connecting a gauge – water does not flow through it. Adapter 44868 is a through-type component – it connects the safety valve thread to the gauge or measurement line thread as a straight transition between two different thread sizes. Water or pressure passes through the adapter to the connected measuring instrument.

Does adapter 44868 remain in the circuit permanently, or is it removed after measurement?|If the gauge is only connected during service, the adapter remains in the valve as a permanent adapting seat. Circuit closure is provided by the screwed-in gauge – with the gauge disconnected, a blanking plug is screwed into the adapter outlet. Without a gauge and without a blanking plug, the adapter outlet is an open leak point under working pressure.

Why use a threaded adapter rather than a gauge with a direct 3/8" thread?|Gauges and measurement lines have their own standard connection threads – often different from the 3/8" used at pump safety valves. Adapter 44868 eliminates the need for a gauge with a non-standard thread or multiple adapters screwed together. A single component adapts the valve connection to the standard thread of the measuring instrument.

How to seal both adapter threads during assembly?|Each thread is sealed independently using the method appropriate for its type. Taper thread BSPT is sealed with PTFE tape wound in the direction of the thread, or hydraulic thread paste. Parallel thread BSPP is sealed through a face element – an O-ring or copper washer at the gauge connection. Before assembly, identify the type of each thread separately – the adapter may have different thread types on each side.

Does adapter 44868 withstand pressure higher than the pump working pressure?|An adapter fitted at the safety valve must withstand pressure at least equal to the valve trip threshold – and therefore higher than the pump nominal working pressure. Original 44868 is designed for this purpose. When ordering a replacement from an external source, confirm the replacement's working pressure rating before installation – do not use an adapter with an unconfirmed pressure rating at this point in the circuit.
